FROM PUGLIA
TO WORLDWIDE🌍
Ciao! My name is Martina, I am a professional photographer and I don't take posed photos.
I specialize in family reportage with a documentary approach, and today, through my photo shoots, I help children and families create authentic and candid memories to cherish for the future.
Born and raised in Puglia, since 2019 citizen of the world for 6 months a year.
Together with my husband Mirko, I live and work the summer in Salento and winter around the world.
Australia, Tenerife, Egypt, Thailand, India, Vietnam and Indonesia are some of the countries where I’ve lived slices of my life (so far!).
After working for 12 years as a wedding photographer, I chose to follow my heart and fulfill my mission:
Helping today’s families and children to have memories in which one day they can recognize themselves and with they can piece together their own life story.
I’ve been a photographer for many years, and I’ve honed my technique and photographic knowledge through my long experience in the wedding industry. But it wasn’t until I spent 6 months in Australia and discovered Documentary Family Photography that I developed a more authentic and personal approach to photography —one that truly represents the people I photograph.
When I work with families and children today, I don’t just take simple photos.
Above all, I make them feel comfortable with my sensitive, playful, and friendly approach. I emotionally connect with them, observe them closely, and begin to notice the little details and nuances of their personalities.
Thanks to my innate ability to grasp the details and perceive the invisible, I can help them to have candid, pose-free, natural and creative photos that truly tell their story.
Photos in which they can deeply recognize themselves.
In the last few years I’ve created memories for families from all over the world who choose Puglia as a destination for their holidays, family reunions or special occasions.
I’ve done this through my photo shoots, like LIFE IS A JUNGLE and PUGLIA FAMILY EXPERIENCE.
During these photo sessions, I’ve seen children having fun, smiling, running, and being themselves because my documentary approach allows them the freedom to play and do whatever they want. And as a result, I’ve seen parents relaxed and at ease because their children were.
I believe in the beauty and magic hidden in small gestures and simple, imperfect moments. I know how essential it is to preserve these moments for the future, so you can one day share them with your children.
Time passes so quickly and we can’t stop it.
That’s why I want to use my experience to serve families and help them cherish precious moments of their life and their holiday in Puglia forever.
MY STORY
My name is Martina, but everyone calls me Marty. Just a few people use my full name: granma, everyone who knows me little, and my husband when I get him nervous.
I grew up without memories of my family, and that deeply affected me. My parents split when I was just 2 years old, and I had never seen pictures of me, my mother, my father, and my sister all together.
Not having pictures of my family has always made me feel a sense of emptiness and sadness throughout my childhood and teens. Not only was my family divided, but I also had no photos to piece together my personal and family history.
I felt that void inside me for years.
Until one day, I was able to see those photographs for the first time.
I was 18, and my husband Mirko (who was just my boyfriend at the time) secretly went to ask my father for the photos, who had been keeping them hidden in his office. Thanks to those photos, I was able to piece together the missing pieces of my own story and of my family, and finally fill the void I had in my heart.
(Yes, I married Mirko for this too!)
In this video I told my story 👇
- And yes... I weep every time I watch it -
That’s why today I’ve chosen to dedicate my work to families and children.
I know how much pain that void can cause, and I don’t want any child to feel that way.
Creating memories for today’s children and their families is a mission for me. Taking authentic photos for them not only allows me to help them take care of their family memories but also allows me to take care of my inner child too.
Every time I work with a new family, I get teary-eyed, and my heart fills with joy just thinking that, 20 years from now, those children will be able to look at the photos I’ve taken for them.
I don’t take photos for today, I do it for tomorrow.
My motto is:
TODAY’S EMOTIONS, TOMORROW’S MEMORIES.
HIGH SENSITIVITY
IS MY SUPERPOWER
For a long time, I thought there was something wrong with me. As long as I can remember, my emotional world has always been very complex.
I was a child who felt and perceived everything deeply.
My emotions.
The emotions of others.
The glances.
The small gestures.
The words said and the ones left unsaid.
The sounds, the lights, and even the smells.
As I grew older, all of this amplified, creating quite a few problems for me. I often felt overwhelmed by everything I saw, felt, and experienced… This made me think many times that I was wrong, as if I came from another planet.
Until a few years ago, I discovered that I’m a Highly Sensitive Person, and that’s when everything changed. It became clear why I felt everything so strongly, always, and also why I could notice details that completely go unnoticed by others. I started to understand myself better and to acquire tools to make the most of this high sensitivity.
Being a highly sensitive photographer allows me to capture for the families I photograph unique pictures that hold the essence of their personality and character.
These are living photos, full of emotions, made of small gestures and great meaning.
High sensitivity allows me to help families create unique memories that encapsulate their truest essence. High sensitivity is my superpower, and I am happy that it is at your service!
